“Imagining a Baptist Social Witness for the 21stCentury”
The Roger Williams Fellowship announces the Rev Dr Adam L Bond as the 2019 Biennial Dinner speaker. Bond will offer the speech “Imagining a Baptist Social Ethics for the 21st Century”.
The RWF Dinner will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at 5 PM, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Event tickets are $36 per person and can be purchased via the ABCUSA Biennial registration process. Online registration can be completed via: https://americanbaptists2019.weebly.com
Dr Adam L Bond is Associate Professor of Church History and American Baptist liaison at the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at the Virginia Union University. A respected writer and lecturer in social ethics, Dr Bond raises up key questions for the church in its engagement with society.
Since 1935, the RWF provides opportunities for Baptists committed to historic values of religious freedom and freedom of conscience to flourish and engage with contemporary issues.
Dr. Adam L. Bond is Associate Professor of Church History and American Baptist Liaison at the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University. He is a graduate of the University of Memphis (Bachelor of Professional Studies) and has earned degrees from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University (Master of Divinity), and Marquette University (Master of Arts in Theology and Doctor of Philosophy in Religious Studies).
An ordained minister in the American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA), he maintains a commitment to the local church. He sees himself as a resource person for students, congregations, and community groups. An expression of this service was his tenure as pastor of the Providence Baptist Church of Ashland.
He is the author of the book I’ve Been Called: Now What? (2012), The Imposing Preacher: Samuel DeWitt Proctor and Black Public Faith (2013), and co-editor of the book Church on Purpose: Reinventing Discipleship, Community, and Justice (2015). He is working on a history of African American Baptists entitled Enduring Tensions: Black Baptist Preachers and the Salvation of America.
He and his wife have two beautiful daughters.
